Futile, Vain and Sterile

I still love the Complete Jewish Bible!

Today I was trying to wring a new insight from Ephesians 4.  Ephesians is a book that I’ve studies numerous times, and I’m amazed that I keep finding new ideas from it.  I have much of it memorized in the KJV, so “walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,” sounds very familiar.  This morning I was reading in my NASB and saw “in the futility of their mind,” and thought, mm-hmm.  Vain=worthless, futile=hopeless.  Makes sense.  Then I hopped over to the CJB and saw this:  “do not live any longer as the pagans live, with their sterile ways of thinking.

Sterile.  That one stopped me.  But…YES.  Incapable of producing anything!  Of course.  The whole point of the Christian life is to bear fruit.  What is more worthless and hopeless than to live your whole life and have nothing of value to show for it?

Yes, Lord!  Make me fruitful in my thinking AND actions, not sterile!

I'm a wonderer. I spend a lot of time mulling, pondering, and cogitating. This is just a place to park some of those thoughts.
