Families and Names

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father,  from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name…  Eph 3:14-15

From whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name…  Families!  God is the source of the family.  We are not created to live alone, to be independent.  God sets the solitary in families. (Ps. 68:6)  He created us to live in families.  We are supposed to have a support system here on earth and to enjoy each other.  We are to work together, to share joys and sorrows, to demonstrate God’s love in our daily lives, to live out His grace.

 Derives its name…

God is all about Naming.  (More of my thoughts on Naming   here  )  And I don’t believe it’s really about *names,* as we think of names in our culture.  The Complete Jewish Bible translates it as “character.”  I like that–The Father from whom every family receives its character.  Most people these days choose a name simply because they like the way it sounds, but originally, names were assigned according to character.  God promises all believers a new name.  Which He will assign.

A short thought from Max Lucado on the subject   here

I'm a wonderer. I spend a lot of time mulling, pondering, and cogitating. This is just a place to park some of those thoughts.
