Rock My World

Acts 9:1-9 (Click to read on BibleGateway.com)

Has your world ever been rocked?

Meet Saul, the well-connected Pharisee from a good Benjamite family, who has been educated thoroughly in the ways of Israel.  He is completely above reproach, having kept the Law all his life, and is now vigorously working to eliminate lawbreakers and rabble-rousers.  He is a powerful man, one who commands respect and lives a holy life.

He is angry with this new movement called the Way, as they are apparently wooing people away from the traditional worship of the God of Israel.  He cannot abide any dishonor of his God, so he sets out to eradicate these people.

As he is on the road to Damascus, he suddenly sees an incredibly brilliant flash of light and a voice speaks directly to him.  He has encountered a Presence so powerful that he is struck to the ground and when he gets back up, his eyes are open, but he can see nothing.  He is blind.

The blindness is humbling.  He who once led a band of forceful crusaders must now be led by the hand in order to reach the city.  But even worse than the blindness is what the Voice said to him.

He had asked, “Who are you, Lord?” recognizing that this must be a supernatural occurrence.  And he had received an answer, but surely not at all the answer that he expected.

“I am Jesus whom you are persecuting.”

Which Rocked. Saul’s. World.

Suddenly everything he has been taught is turned upside-down.  The ‘perfect’ way of life that he has been zealously defending is suddenly brought into question.  His belief system has, in a moment, been completely unraveled.  If Jesus, the leader of the Way, is able to manifest Himself like this, what could it possibly mean?  Saul knows exactly how religious people are supposed to act, think, and look, and this Jesus did NOT fit into the mold.  All the things Saul had thought were right were suddenly completely wrong.

Has God ever rocked your world?  Has He ever humbled you and made you feel helpless, as Saul must have felt when his companions led him by the hand?  Have you ever realized that, though your eyes are open, you can see nothing?

Praying that God will rock your world today.  In a good way.  🙂

I'm a wonderer. I spend a lot of time mulling, pondering, and cogitating. This is just a place to park some of those thoughts.
