Gremlins

I wrote a post last week.  I don’t remember exactly what it was about, but it was a scintillating gem of all my accumulated wisdom, a shimmering pearl of brilliance.

You know, the usual kind of thing.

And as I hit the Save Changes button, something happened.  My computer (or perhaps the nasty little gremlins of the Internet) gulped, chewed…chewed some more… and eventually swallowed.  At least I guess that’s what happened.  And all those majestic words were lost to posterity forever.

And since I was getting ready for weekend company and had no more time, I had to accept that it was just Fate.  Or something.  And now I am getting ready for more houseguests tomorrow, and then a weekend away with family, so I doubt a post will be happening this week.

Just so you know.
In case you’ve been hanging out here waiting breathlessly for my next installment.
Yeah, right.

About dayuntoday

I'm a wonderer. I spend a lot of time mulling, pondering, and cogitating. This is just a place to park some of those thoughts.

Aw, I hate it when that happens.  I’ve lost some really amazing things to that strange place where all those wonderfully inspired words just up and disappear.

  2. Were you using a word processing application (like MS Word) or were you typing directly into the “add new weblog entry” pane?  Out of fear for the very circumstance that you described, I now type my entries into a Word document first and then cut and paste the entry into the “new weblog” pane when I’m finished.  That way, if it somehow gets chewed up and swallowed by Internet gremlins then at least I have a back up.  I feel for you, though.  It has happened to me and it is very deflating!  So sorry that it happened.

  3. BTW, the reason that I even read your posts is because I know that it will surely be “a scintillating gem of all your accumulated wisdom, a shimmering pearl of brilliance!”  Your faithful readers (which includes me) expect nothing less from you, Homefire!

How kind, Dave!  It’s always nice to hear that someone actually does read what I write.  And yes, I sometimes do the copy-from-Word thing, but not always when I’m just dashing off something in a frenzy of inspiration.  Not this time.  sigh.
