Liberty and Responsibility

 

Freedom is in danger of degenerating into mere arbitrariness unless it is lived in terms of responsibleness.  That is why I recommend that the Statue of Liberty on the East Coast be supplemented by a Statue of Responsibility on the West Coast.

    It’s amazing that immigrants who came the legal way, also the hard way are really scared of what’s going on now too.

    @mcbery – Yeah, often they can see it more clearly because they have another experience besides the easy American way that most of us have grown up with.

    @BooksForMe – um, actually it was two yesterday.    And I actually never got very far with My Antonia…it got set aside for something lighter, I’m afraid!  Library books have a way of getting precedence.
