Does anyone remember our anniversary last year, when my husband gave me a wonderful surprise? Several people have asked him what in the world he was going to do this year to top that one.
Well, he didn’t have to do anything! This year we BOTH got surprised! Our anniversary isn’t for another week, but we’ve already celebrated.
Friday our daughter called and said that she wanted to bring supper to us. Well, that sounded pretty good, and I said sure. We enjoyed her lovely meal of lasagna, breadsticks, and green beans, and while we were still sitting at the table, someone drove in the driveway. It turned out to be some of our dearest friends bearing a gorgeous anniversary cake and loads of food! One family was from out of state, so you can imagine how surprised we were! We had absolutely no idea they were coming, and it was such fun. We got to spend a wonderful weekend with them, and I didn’t have to cook or clean!
Our daughter had planned it all (isn’t she a sweetheart? ) and enlisted the help of the younger kids to clean up a bit and make sure the house was decent. She provided not only supper, but Caramel-Soaked French Toast for breakfast the next day. (And yes, it IS just as good as it sounds!) I can’t believe all the preparations they managed without us having even the slightest suspicion.
Another couple from out of state were supposed to spend the weekend with us, too, but they got sidetracked by the arrival of their first grandchild–First things first, you know! We’re assuming that we get a rain check on that visit!?!?
It was such a lovely way to celebrate. We surely have the greatest kids and the greatest friends you could ever wish for!
And now I need to kick into high gear to finalize plans for the singles retreat we are helping with this weekend. And that’s going to be another fun and exhausting weekend, I have a feeling!
