Help the Addicts

I just read an article that was quite thought-provoking.  Click here to read the whole thing.  Here’s a snippet:

Health clinic helps addicts shoot up

Inside the Vancouver facility, I found more than a dozen people taking illegal drugs, such as heroin and cocaine, under the watchful eye of trained nurses. These drug users were among the more than 700 people who visit the facility every day, bringing their drugs with them.

Did you realize there were places like this?  And what you think of it, exactly?  It was interesting to read the comments after the story.

I'm a wonderer. I spend a lot of time mulling, pondering, and cogitating. This is just a place to park some of those thoughts.

“In the more than four years Insite has been open, there have been roughly 800 overdoses at the facility, but there have not been any deaths. When someone does overdose, nurses try to revive them. If the drug user is in critical condition, they are sent to a hospital.”

That’s 200 a year….something seems wrong about this picture!  Socialist medicine at its best!

What is “wrong” with this picture is MAN trying to fix a heart issue.  There is no antabuse powerful enough, no dungeon dank enough, no cell wall strong enough to separate an addict from the love of his buzz.  Until each individual replaces that void which is created in the withdrawal process with the Lord Jesus Christ, he will either replace it with more drugs or another addiction to fill the emptiness.  There is no hope outside of transformation. Reformation (white knuckle avoidance just won’t cut it.  Conformation (immersion in a church a society) just won’t cut it.  Information (educating ourselves to the sad but true facts) just won’t cut it.  Deformation (self-flagelation or isolation) just won’t cut it.  Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world is the answer, the whole answer and nothing but the answer.  And when he, in utter brokenness, arrives at that point of repentance then and only then will he be free indeed.
I have re-posted the talk at YF on my site.  This is a topic that is near and dear to my heart.  As we enter the dark winter months,  maybe a YF (or any person) who is struggling can see this and fill that void.
LORD I pray that this may touch a heart today and that your saving healing power will work it’s wonder again in that person’s life.  Amen

Could you copy/paste the CNN article and send it to me?  I can’t seem to get it to load and I would like to read it.  Thanks.
OCD alert— please imagine an ending parenthesis on “white knuckle avoidance” and a deleted second “a” in the parenthetical conformation statement.  Also quotes around “Greater is He…”       And add “methadone or” to antabuse at the top.
See why I rarely leave comments?  I loose* editorial control as soon as I hit submit.

    *that was on purpose.
