Good morning! It is raining cats and dogs here today, so it’s a good day to curl up by the fire, I guess. Hopefully a good day to get a lot of schoolwork and sewing done–my two most pressing needs at the moment.
I wanted to report that I did take an hour or so and fold that enormous mountain of laundry, and even did a bit of cleaning. Just so you all wouldn’t know think I’m a total slob.
I also spent some time reading more in the Ann Coulter book last night, and this chapter was really encouraging. Not that it was intended to be, but it was about public schools. Yesterday was a rough school day, and I was feeling like a failure, as happens far too often lately. I had even wondered if I really was capable of being a good teacher to my children. Then I read what she had to say, and decided that if just half of it was true, that even the incomplete job I’m doing of home-education is far better than what many PS kids are getting. It was incredible reading. I’ve been a bit tempted to post an excerpt, though I don’t know if I want to type it out. Plus I’d like to check a couple of her facts first if I can.

I read that one – Ann Coulter isn’t what you would call gracious – I really enjoyed the book but she can keep her attitude

I think I have seen that Ann Coulter book at our library… I may pick it up.
I’ve heard Ann Colter on the radio, and she is a clever and entertaining guest. I haven’t read the book, but I know my decision to homeschool was influenced by a desire to have them not learn certain things kids learn in public school. I’ve never been to a church like yours. The Bible verse at the bottom was taken from a mission statement of a church I found online. I hope they follow through.
I love thunderstorms. I was discussing my doubts and fears about my insecurities being a homeschooling mom to my Mother in law—-and she was so encouraging to me. . . .basically telling me that it was Satan and to be confident that I AM doing the best thing for my children. This has been my first year homeschooling and it has been quite a challange for me—the kids have been great!
Humpf. Not all PS kids are stupid. :whocares:

But seriously along that thought line… PS and HS kids are all really determined by how much time we place in them, not simply the way they are taught, I have seen bad kids in both systems. But I do know that the rates of “bad kids” is higher in the PS system.
(you normally do not have school shootings in a HS system…)

Oh! I wish that was our weather right now.
We were talking at our group the other day about how someone from a “regular school” said, trying to compliment, hey your kids are so smart if they went to school they could be in GATE! And the parent in our group replied that their kids are in GATE. It is so true that the average hopmeschooled kid is doing what the top :regular” school kids are. We’ve seen it in tests etc. over and over.

Life application as in those huge thick roots of the yucca, if we’re not careful, we need to root out those horrible ugly roots of bitterness, or it will consume us

I have a couple public school teacher friends, and they tell me about the days when they don’t feel like they are doing well as teachers. They also tell me about the problems they have to deal with; I really feel for them. So, I think it’s safe to say that all teachers, public and home schooling, have days full of struggle and insecurities. The Lord will bless whatever education choice a parent makes, as long as it’s done within His will and to His glory.
